What Is a Thyroid Scan?

A thyroid scan is a nuclear medicine investigation for the evaluation of disorders of the thyroid gland. In this investigation, a small amount of radiotracer is either injected or given orally to the patient and then imaging of the thyroid is done.

Preparations for Thyroid Scan?

A thyroid scan needs to be delayed is the patient is receiving certain medications or if they have undergone a contrast CT scan in the past month. The scheduling of the scan should be discussed before taking a date for the investigation.
